Krups FBC2 Toaster Oven - The Best Toaster Oven or the Worst?

Robin OBrien
When it comes to buying a toaster oven, most consumers are looking at how long the product will last and the variety of functions available. Since they can be such a great time saver in the kitchen, these small ovens are an important investment that everyone must decide on at some point. The Krups toaster oven is now one of the top brands being sold, but they are also priced a little higher than competing brands. So is the Krups FBC2 toaster oven worth the extra price, or are all the excellent reviews just hype?

At first glance, the Krups FBC2 is very attractive. It is a modern design with a glass front door and two rack positions inside. The LCD monitor on front displays a clock when not in use and it is easy to operate through well placed buttons. It comes in sterling silver or black and would look nice in any kitchen arrangement.

What makes the FBC2 toaster oven from Krups stand apart from other six slice capacity ovens in this higher price range is the "quartz cycling" technology which most ovens from this manufacturer possess. There are two heating elements, one on top and one on bottom. The oven´s 1600 watts of power is rotated from one element to the other to maintain a consistent temperature in all areas of the oven.

The bottom drip tray also helps with even heating by reflecting heat into all corners of the oven. The corner areas are where a lot of cheaper made toaster ovens neglect to heat properly, causing food to have cold spots.

This oven has the convection baking feature which spreads the heat around all angles of the food and bakes quickly. It also has a defrost option that thaws frozen foods out just as evenly as it cooks, bakes, and broils.

The question is whether all of this is enough to make this the best toaster oven, or if it falls short for the high price range. The answer is that it is in fact worth the higher price. The technological idea behind the heating elements works very well. This oven will heat up very quickly, and cool down just as rapidly. It does everything it is supposed to do, plus adds in some nice features such as the defrost mode.

With all that said, this Krups toaster oven is not necessarily the best one you can buy. There are two newer models of this very same oven which offer six pre-set options for various popular foods and a larger capacity to hold even a twelve inch pizza. This model is a little smaller, but it also is just a little cheaper.
