LOS ANGELES — Thousands of Farmers agents, district managers and employees will conduct a one-day fundraiser for the March of Dimes in cities across America on July 22.

This is the fourth year Farmers will hold its unique "Be a Hero for Babies DaySM, which includes community events from bowling tournaments, softball competitions, to barbeque feasts to raise money.

Telephone calls from Farmers district offices across the country announcing funds raised, will come into a special telethon phone bank area set up in the Farmers home office in Los Angeles.

"We are looking forward to another banner fundraising day on July 22," said Farmers CEO Robert Woudstra, also a newly elected Trustee of the March of Dimes. "The March of Dimes is a tremendous organization. Each day babies are born prematurely and Farmers is committed to do what it can to help them have a fighting chance at a healthy life."

Farmers Insurance started "Be a Hero for Babies Day" three years ago when then Chief Executive Officer Paul N. Hopkins challenged Farmers Insurance agents, district managers and employees to raise $1 million dollars in one day for the March of Dimes. They responded by raising $1.44 million. Each year since then, the challenge has grown and the response has been overwhelming. In 2007, Be a Hero for Babies Day raised $2.7 million, and in 2008, $3.2 million. Since Farmers people began fundraising for the March of Dimes over 21 years ago, they have raised over $25 million for the March of Dimes. These efforts make Farmers the number one insurance company fundraiser for the March of Dimes nationwide.
